Mike: What type of plastic could be used instead of drywall on a ceiling? I have 2 holes in the basement ceiling. One is approximately 2 feet by 2 feet, the other is about 8 feet long by less than 2 feet wide. Since I can not lift drywall myself, I wanted to use plastic to fix the hole. I need to find a drill-able, cut-able plastic that is solid and non-flexible. It would help if mold couldn’t grow on it; It was fire resistant and water proof but I can’t have everything. Ceiling tiles do not seem to come thick enough to hold against a wooden stud. I want to hide the pipes in the soffet in a way that the plastic can be taken off if there is a leak. Is this possible? Do you think I will run into code issues if we ever sell the house?femalegtrst

go to a home center and ask to see a product called Mar-lite.
hire a drywall contractor to replace the sheetrock, its not all that expensive and you ll never sell the house in that condition.
