How to get a fresh smelling basement.

Guest: It’s an unfinished basement in an older home. It just has that musty, “old” smell. I have a dehumidifier and have sprayed bleach on the walls and wiped them down, but the scent returns in a couple days. There are no water problems or anything being stored down there, just a washer and dryer.

  1. Put dishes or packets of activated charcoal around the area. Activated charcoal is the best thing ever for odor removal.

  2. Car freshners,lol, or candles…

  3. You may need a second dehumidifer…but you may need to first seal off any cracks so to avoid moisture seeping into the basement.

Great Stuff works great…you can use that along any cracks you have in the concrete…and also check to make sure the downspouts on your gutters are leading away from the house and the foundation.

Sprinkling baking soda around the baseboards will also be a cheap, effective way to ward off the smells and moisture.
