Will a bathroom makeover add to my homes value?

How much will a bathroom makeover add to my homes value?

  1. The rule of thumb is about 2X what you spent to redo the bathroom..

  2. Depending on what you do to it, it definitely will. The bathroom is a big deciding factor for many people when buying a home.

  3. It all depends on what kind of makeover you actually do …. and if it’s done well….. If you cast your mind back to the eighties – just about everyone wanted an ‘avocado’ (green) or ‘champagne’ (beige) or ‘Rose’(pink) bathroom suite (bath, sink, toilet) and followed that colour scheme throughout out in their bathroom …. today most people would shy away from a property with a bathroom suite like these……fearing the cost of replacing it…..
So a general coloured scheme – generally a limited use of a complimentary colour with a white bathroom suite (bath, sink, toilet – and shower cubicle if possible) – done very tidily and well (no shortcuts with the tiles, flooring, grouting, sealant etc) will add about £1-2,000 to the value of the property …. (stay away from corner baths – most people don’t like them anymore and they use more water than an ordinary bath!) ……could even be a bit more if, done well, creating a wet room instead of installing a bathroom suite – these appear to be becoming more popular – with people using flagstone flooring and large complimentary floor to ceiling tiles, some nice glass shelving, a well positioned fitted mirror and perhaps a glass screen sectioning off the shower end – and chrome furnishings….. :)

  4. According to what I have seen on home and garden tv, it will ad a lot of value. But you have to be wise about how you spend in the bathroom. Some people do well, and others over spend in certain areas. And the overspending in that does not always come back in the end. Here is something that may help in compairing prices. You need to shop around to get the best buys. I think the person is right that said about two and a half times what it cost to redo it “If you do not over spend”.
